UPDATED STORY
Early Wednesday morning, May 24, 2023, Portage la Prairie RCMP were called to a domestic disturbance at an apartment on Hazel Bay in the community.
Officers located the female victim in another apartment and then went to the apartment where the male suspect lived. Officers were confronted by an armed male and deployed their tasers. The tasers were unsuccessful which resulted in an officer shooting the 18-year-old male suspect with their sidearm. Although resuscitation efforts were made the suspect was declared dead at the scene.

RCMP say that one of the officers received minor injuries during the incident.
The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba deployed investigators to the scene and has taken over the investigation into the shooting.
