POLITICS | ‘TAKE YOUR PANTS OFF’ IS WHAT MINISTER SAYS NDP MLA YELLED IN THE HOUSE DURING QUESTION PERIOD

NDP MLA Rob Altemeyer is once again under fire for allegedly making inappropriate comments in the Manitoba Legislature. Culture, Heritage and Sport Minister Rochelle Squires accused Altemeyer of yelling “Take your pants off” during question period last week, an accusation that Altemeyer flatly denies.

Squires told the legislature Thursday morning that her rights as a parliamentarian had been breached and demanded an apology because the comment was outrageous and offensive.

This isn’t the first time Altemeyer has been accused of blerting out offensive comments. Last week he and three other NDP MLAs were accused of and ultimately apologized for shouting “shame” each time a female PC MLA voted against a private members bill regarding sexual violence in post-secondary schools.

Thursday afternoon during question period Altemeyer addressed the house and denied the accusation. He claimed that what he had said was “Take a pass on it.”

“My words were, quote, ‘Take a pass on it,'” Altemeyer said. “My words were referring to the premier and his inability to answer an important question from last week.”

To back up his position Altemeyer tabled an audio recording from the day in question.
