Manitoba Finance Minister Cameron Friesen announced today that the government will be cutting 112 senior management positions over the next 14 months.
“Layers of administration and top-heavy structures do not create better value or performance, rather they complicate effective decision-making and restrict the free flow of ideas from critical front-line service providers,” said Friesen.
According to a press statement the minister has indicated that all government departments will be part of the cutbacks that will occur through attrition, retirements and necessary reductions and will happen in two phases, the first that ends March 31, 2017 and the second ending Dec 31, 2017.
According to Friesen the senior management levels have grown by 33% since 2005 but have not improved Manitoba’s performance results and is not sustainable.
The minister noted that the reduction of senior management positions will save the government approximately $10 million annually.
