Winnipeg Police deployed their Clandestine Lab Team after officers became aware of a potential safety issue due to fentanyl residue in a residence on Aikins Street.
It began around 5:30pm on October 18, 2016. Police and medical personnel were called to the home on a medical assistance call.
An infant in medical distress was taken to hospital in critical condition but has since been upgraded to stable.
It is while police were in the home that they became aware of the potential safety risk and it was decided that the Clandestine Lab Team should be deploy. The lab team has special training and hazmat suits to be able to work in hazardous environments. They are specifically trained to deal with controlled substances.
Investigators, at no time, believed that a clandestine drug lab was in operation.
The investigation continues into what the substance was and whether or not fentanyl was related to the medical distress experienced by the infant.
