Man hurt by beanbag
Manitoba’s Independent Investigations Unit are investigating after a man was injured during an arrest by RCMP officers.
It happened around 4:oo am February 4, 2017 when RCMP were executing a search warrant for firearms and drugs on Sagkeeng First Nation. According to police an officer discharged a firearm that shot beanbags and hit a male in the stomach.
The man sustained bruising to his abdomen and a cut to his right hand.
Under provincial legislation the IIU must investigate anytime a serious injury occurs. Injuries caused by firearms are considered serious sparking the mandatory investigation.
The IIU investigates all serious incidents involving police officers in Manitoba, whether occurring on or off duty.
