Manitoba’s Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) is looking into the circumstances surrounding the death of a man in Thompson RCMP custody.
RCMP arrested the man under The Intoxicated Persons Detention Act at about 6 p.m. on Monday, September 13. Roughly five hours later the man was found unresponsive in his cell. The man was taken to Thompson General Hospital, but died on September 14.
As the investigation is now underway few details were available. A request to have a civilian monitor involved in the case will be made to the Manitoba Police Commission because the case involves a death.
The IIU has invited anyone with information that might assist the investigation to contact them toll-free at 1-844-667-6060.
