On January 9, 2017 Winnipeg police attempted to stop a Ford F150 truck near Chancellor Drive and Pembina Highway.

Police blocked the truck with their cruiser but the suspect accelerated his vehicle crashing into the police unit. The suspect drove away and became stuck in heavy snow when he drove the truck into an open field. As police attempted to arrest the suspect a struggle occurred and the suspect sustained a fractured eye socket.

The Independent Investigation Unit (IIU) of Manitoba was notified of the injury and has assumed responsibility for the investigation.

The IIU is asking witnesses and other individuals who have information or video footage that may assist this investigation to contact them toll-free at 1-844-667-6060.
