The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) is looking into the arrest of a male who suffered serious injuries while being placed in custody.
The IIU says that according to the Winnipeg Police Service they responded to a service call to Charles Street on Sunday, April 11, 2021. When officers arrived they found an injured male. Police say the male suddenly attacked officers who then used force to subdue him.
The male was taken to hospital and treated for fractured ribs and a possible hemothorax.
Since fractured ribs are considered a serious injury the IIU is mandated to investigate this incident.
Investigators are looking for anyone who may have witnessed the incident or who have video footage to call 1-844-667-6060.
