Brandon Police issued a public warning about a counterfeit scam that is popping up in the wheat city.
According to police several instances of counterfeit $100 bills being passed have come to their attention.
The bills in question were designed as training aids and have information about the bill printed on it in foreign languages.
Criminals have been cutting out the security hologram that has the foreign language printing on it and replacing it with a security strip from $5 bills.
Once the fake bills have been altered they are typically used to buy inexpensive items with the suspect receiving real money back as change.
The BPS is reminding anyone who works in the retail industry to check all bills before they accept them. They say that if you suspect that a bill is counterfeit to call them.
Police also say that it is important to remember that the person who is in possession of counterfeit money may be a innocent victim who is unaware that the money is counterfeit.
