Police set up sting to capture robbery suspect

Winnipeg Police have arrested an alleged robber during a sting operation after four people were threatened and robbed after responding to online ads.

Police say that between September 3 and September 12, 2019 the victims arranged to meet with the accused outside a McGee Street business to purchase an iPhone.

In each case the suspect pulled a knife and demanded cash and in one also demanded the victim’s cell phone. In total the suspect stole $1750 in cash and one cell phone.

On Sunday September 15, 2019 Investigators set up a sting and made an arrangement to make a purchase from the accused. The suspect approached officers in an unmarked police vehicle armed with a knife. After a short foot pursuit he was taken into custody.

Ibraham Baldobola Bangura, 25 from Winnipeg is facing a number of charges for his alleged involvement including Fail to Comply Condition Recognizance, Possession of a Weapon and four counts of Robbery.

Police are reminding the public that answering online classified ads can be risky and they have set up Buy and Sell Exchange Zones at all four police stations in the city.
