Police say Winnipeg’s first homicide of 2017 was pre-planned
The 16 year old male who had been charged with second degree murder in the death of 25 year old Tyler Kirtin in now facing 1st degree murder charges in that death.
As News4 told you emergency responders found Kirton lying on the road in the area of Watt and Thames just after 10:00pm on January 3, 2017.

On January 4th police arrested and charged a 16 year old boy with second degree murder in the case.
Upon review of the case police say that on Wednesday they upgraded the charges to 1st degree murder because investigators believe the killing was planned and deliberate.
The accused cannot be named in this case because he is a minor.
