Winnipeg Police announced on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, that beginning this week and continuing over the next several months the WPS will be updating its CCTV surveillance camera program in the downtown area.
The program has been operating with nine cameras since 2009. The modernization will see a total of 25 cameras in the downtown.
Police say the the improved technology and increased number of cameras will enhance police investigations.
The new cameras are part of a multi-year Downtown Public Safety Strategy that was adopted by City Council in 2018. $150,000 was earmarked for the modernization program of the WPS Closed-Circuit Television Program.
