On Thursday, March 1, 2018, the Winnipeg Police Service announced a new partnership with the MedicAlert Foundation of Canada to bring a new service to Winnipeg.
The MedicAlert Connect Protect service is designed to help police quickly reunite missing vulnerable people living with conditions autism, Alzheimers, dementia or a cognitive brain injury with their family or caregivers.
Police get 24-hour access to information about someone registered in the program. The person’s photo, identity, past wandering history and other vital emergency information can be accessed through their MedicAlert medical ID engraved on a bracelet they wear.
“Partnerships like this support our Service’s priorities when it comes to the protection of vulnerable persons,” said Chief Danny Smyth.
