Winnipeg Police were called to the Windsor Hotel on Garry Street Saturday afternoon, April 6, 2019.
Police say that at 2:45 pm they received a report of gunfire inside the hotel. Officers quickly closed off Garry between St Mary and York Avenues.
The Tactical Support Team entered the building and did a floor by floor, suite by suite search looking for a suspect and firearm.
Three people were taken into custody for questioning but no arrests have been made.
Police say that an electrical box had damage that could have been caused by a gunshot but they don’t know how recent that damage may be. Investigators are also looking into reports that power went out in the area around the time the gunshot was reported.
Garry Street was reopened to traffic just after 7:00pm but officers remained on scene for several more hours.
As the investigation unfolded police arrested and charged a 55-year-old male after he was allegedly responsible for shooting at an electrical panel inside the hotel that knocked out power to the building and surrounding area. It is still unclear the motive behind the shooting.
The other two men who had been brought in for questioning were released without charges.
