Police surround Riverview home; order occupants out

A quiet Riverview street was the scene of some late-night excitement as officers from the Winnipeg Police Service Tactical Support Team converged on and surrounded a home.

Officers arrived on the scene minutes before 11:30 pm and took tactical positions around the building on Nassau Street at Beresford Avenue. Other officers in unmarked police vehicles blocked traffic in the area.

In an email to News 4, a police spokesperson said that the officers were on the scene to execute a search warrant but that police were not releasing any other information about the operation at this time.

Tactical officers ordered the occupants out of the home and said that if they did not comply the police dog would be sent in and they would be bitten. Shortly before midnight officers entered the home.

Bystanders told News 4 that as many as four people had been taken into custody.

By 12:30 am Monday morning police began to disburse and only two patrol units remained at the scene.
