Gun call leads to pursuit and shooting
Around 11:00 am Monday, July 24, 2017, Winnipeg Police got a report of a man with a gun on La Verendrye in St. Boniface.
As officers arrived in the area a police brief pursuit occurred and ended a few blocks later after the suspect vehicle crashed in a parking lot on Archibald Street
Police are saying that officers shot a suspect but have not released any other information surrounding what lead up to a weapon discharge. The 26-year-old male was taken to hospital in critical condition, underwent surgery and is now listed in stable condition.
Winnipeg Police Service Public Information Officer Rob Carver said that the information he could release would be minimal as the investigation would be turned over to the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU).
He did say that no one was hurt in the vehicle collision and that a number of people have been placed under arrest.
The IIU investigates all on and off-duty police officer-related incidents in Manitoba involving death, serious injury or alleged contravention of Canada’s Criminal Code or other laws, as defined in Part 7 of The Police Services Act.
