Police shoot armed male during domestic incident

UPDATED

Winnipeg Police responded to an Anderson Avenue home around 4:40 am Thursday April9, 2020 for the report of a 36-year-old male armed with a firearm involved in a domestic incident.

When officers arrived they heard a woman screaming and forced their way inside the home. After encountering the male with the firearm they retreated outside and tried to communicate with the male.

The male then exited the home with the firearm at which point he was shot by police.

Police provided medical treatment to the male. He was taken to hospital in critical condition but pronounced dead.

Member of the Homicide unit are investigating what led up to the shooting. The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba has taken over the officer-involved shooting portion of the investigation.

This is the second officer-involved shooting incident within 12 hours.
