Police shoot and kill armed robbery suspect

Winnipeg Police said Saturday April 18, 2020, that an officer-involved shooting occurred at around 4:20 am.

Police say that they were called to the 200 block of Adsum Drive at 4:00 am for a gun call.

A male in the area was taking out his garbage when two armed men confronted him and demanded money. The male was assaulted by the suspects but able to get away and call police.

Minutes later a second call was received reporting windows being broken in a near by apartment building.

When officers arrived they searched the area and found the suspects near Pipeline Road and Adsum Drive. At this point one of the suspects was shot by police.

Officers immediately administered first aid until paramedics arrived and transported the suspect to hospital. The 22-year-old male suspect was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.

The second suspect, a 16-year-old male suffered minor injuries and was taken to hospital. He is currently in police custody.

The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba has taken over the officer-involved portion of the investigation.

This is the third officer-involved shooting in Winnipeg in the past ten days.
