First Nations Police Dog nabs youth after six-kilometre track

Manitoba First Nations Police Service Dog ‘Ceto’ has helped make another arrest.

Police say that on Wednesday August 6, 2019, they were called to a home on Sandy Bay First Nation after a youth inflicted serious injuries on himself and fled into the bush. The 16-year-old male had had an argument with his girlfriend prior to injuring himself.

Officers on scene called in ‘Ceto’ and his human handler. The K-9 picked up a track and led his two-legged partner on a six-kilometre trek to another residence. The youth was located and placed under arrest. He was taken to hospital for medical treatment of the self-inflicted injuries to his arms.

The youth was charged with a number of offences stemming from three outstanding warrants.

He was detained in custody pending a court appearance.

Ceto has only been a certified police dog for the past three months but in that time she has assisted in more than 30 arrests.
