Brandon Police made two high-risk traffic stops on Thursday afternoon, July 18, 2019, prior to executing a firearms search warrant.
Police say that just before 11:30 am they stopped a vehicle on Victoria Avenue and made several arrests. The 32-year-old driver was prohibited from driving. He was arrested and his vehicle impounded. A 33-yer-old male passenger was arrested after police found a can of pepper spray in his backpack. A 17-year-old female was arrested for breach of probation. Police held all three people until after they had executed the firearms search warrant.
The second vehicle was stopped near 14th Street and Princess Avenue. No one with that vehicle was arrested.
Brandon Police deployed their emergency response team as they executed the warrant on 2nd Streetdue to the nature of the search.
Officers entered the home around 4:00 pm and seized a .22 calibre sawed-off bolt action rifle. The barrel was intact but the stock had been significantly shortened.
A 33-year-old male was arrested and charged for his alleged involvement with unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted weapon, possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition, and careless storage of a firearm.
He was released on conditions and will appear in a Brandon court in September.
