Manitoba First Nations Police Service officers seized a number of drugs, cash and weapons during a traffic stop on Long Plain First Nation Tuesday morning, January5, 2021.
Police say they were called by Long Plain First Nation Security after a vehicle went through a checkpoint in the community with a non-member in contravention of a COVID-19 health order.
Police initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle and issued the driver a Provincial Offences Act ticket. Police ordered all the occupants out of the vehicle.
As the occupants exited officers noticed a knife in the outer pocket of a backpack inside the vehicle.
Officers searched the vehicle and found a can of bear spray inside the backpack as well as a crystal-like substance believed to be Methamphetamine in a baggie, 3 scales, numerous dime bags, a prefilled syringe needle with a red like substance and a large quantity of cash.
Two suspects were charged for their alleged involvement.
27-year-old Amber Bell from Portage la Prairie is facing a number of drug-related charges including Possess Methamphetamine, Possession for the purpose of trafficking –Methamphetamine and Possession of property obtained by crime under $5000.
Maurice Merrick, 28 was charged with Possess Prohibited Weapon, three counts of Weapons possession contrary to court order and FTC release order.
