Police searching for suspects after a series of downtown assaults on Sunday

Winnipeg Police Service are searching for two male suspects in connection to a series of assaults in the downtown area on Sunday, February 19, 2023.

Police say that the incidents started just before 10:00 am near Portage Avenue and Sherbrook Street when a male was assaulted by the two suspects. Officers found the 30-year-old victim suffering from the effects of bear spray. He was treated at the scene by paramedics and medically cleared.

Ten minutes later, officers were called to the 300 block of Langside Street after a female had been assaulted by two male suspects. The 24-year-old woman had suffered an upper-body injury and was also suffering from the effects of bear spray.

At 12:45 pm a 33-year-old man was assaulted in the area around Colony Square on St. Mary Avenue. When police found the victim he was suffering from the effects of bear spray. The victim did not require medical help.

Police say that officers also responded to a fourth incident at 7:30 am in the same area. In that incident, two people were chased by two suspects with unknown weapons. Although the victims have not yet come forward to the police the descriptions provided lead officers to believe the incidents are linked.

Officers are looking for two skinny adult males around the age of 20 and standing between 5’6″ and 5’8″ tall. Both were wearing black hooded bomber jackets and black/blue jeans.

Police warn that the suspects are considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached.

Anyone with information is asked to call investigators at (204) 986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at (204) 786-8477.
