Police save life of machete attack victim

Two quick thinking Winnipeg Police officers saved the life of an assault victim early Monday morning, October 14, 2019.

Around 4:50 am the officers came across an injured male in his 20s near Pembina Highway and Dudley Avenue. The male was bleeding from a severe laceration on his leg and was in shock. The man was losing blood at an alarming rate.

Officers applied a tactical tourniquet to the man’s leg to control the bleeding. HE was taken to hospital in unstable condition.

Police say the investigation has revealed that the male was walking towards downtown when he was attacked without warning. Two suspects attacked the victim with a machete then walked away.

Police are looking for a male in his 20s with a tattoo on his cheek. The other suspect is a female. both suspects are described as Indigenous in appearance.

The victim was upgraded to stable condition after medical treatment. Emergency personnel say that if it wasn’t for the fast action of the officers the victim would have likely died.
