Police run into burning house to rescue victims

Winnipeg Police Service is investigating the cause of a fatal fire on Logan Avenue early Sunday morning, November 6, 2022.

 

At about 1:15 am officers on patrol spotted a fire in a 700 block two-storey house. Officers called for the Winnipeg Fire Department before gaining entrance to the building to look for occupants.

A 69-year-old woman was escorted out of the home by officers and treated by paramedics for smoke inhalation.

Once outside the woman told officers that there was another person inside. General patrol and Tactical Support Team members went back into the fire to search for a 45-year-old male but were forced to retreat due to the intensity of the blaze.

Firefighters were able to get the fire contained and discovered the male deceased inside.

Police went back into the home and recovered the body of the victim.

The cause of the fire and death of the victim is under investigation by the WFD Fire Investigator and the WPS Major Crimes Unit
