Winnipeg Police Service responded to the area of Manitoba Avenue and Parr Street around 9:30 pm on Saturday, May 20, 2023, after receiving reports of a male with a gun and shots fired.

General patrol, Tactical Support Team, K-9 and Air1 searched the area for several blocks but did not find any evidence to support the report claims.

While police were on the scene residents on Manitoba Avenue between Parr Street and Arlington Street were seen setting off fireworks in the back lane.

Officers believe that the sound of the fireworks could have been mistaken for gunfire.
