Police respond to Main Street fight

Winnipeg Police Service were called to the scene of a fight on Main Street after a passerby alerted the 911 call centre shortly after 8:15 p.m. on Sunday, April 7, 2024.

The fight appeared to be between two groups, an adult male and female and approximately six other adult men. As the fight progressed the adult male pulled what appeared to be a firearm out of his bag which he swung at several of his attackers. The male with the weapon was taken to the ground and punched and kicked by several men.

At one point during the fight, the alleged weapon was dropped onto the street, only to be picked up by the female involved in the incident. The attackers continued to focus their attention on the adult man knocking him to the ground where he lay motionless for a couple of minutes.

The male on the ground was able to get up and began walking away before turning and returning to where the fight began.

As the fight continued a lone K-9 unit officer arrived on the scene and most of those involved scattered before additional officers arrived.

The man who had the alleged weapon entered the bar at the New West Hotel.

No arrests were made.
