Police respond to an early morning fight on St. James Street

UPDATED

Shortly after midnight, emergency crews responded to a fight in the 1000 block of St. James Street.

When general patrol officers, Tactical Support Team members and paramedics arrived on the scene they found two men suffering with injuries. One of the men was seriously injured and taken to hosptial in critical condition. The second male was also taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A large blood pool could be seen in the parking lot where the first male was found lying when crews arrived.

Investigators say that a group of individuals became involved in an altercation which escalated when a knife was produced by one of the combatants.

Officers cordoned off the Smitty’s parking lot with police tape while patrons and staff from the restaurant stood watching.

Members of the Major Crimes Unit are investigating the incident.
