Winnipeg Police released more information about the police chase News 4 first told you about on Saturday afternoon. That chase led to a collision involving a WPS Tactical Unit and the suspect vehicle.
Police say that in October members of the Guns and Gangs Unit began investigating the trafficking of Fentanyl, Methamphetamine and Cocaine in Winnipeg.
On November 21, officers had gone to an address in the 1100 block of Portage Avenue to arrest a male and a female suspect related to the investigation. Police spotted both suspects around 11:45 am leaving in separate vehicles. Members of the Tactical Support Team tried to stop them but the male rammed the tactical unit and both suspect fled.
Police pursued the male suspect south to Kenaston Boulevard at Bishop Grandin where a Tactical Support Team vehicle was used to forcibly stop the fleeing vehicle. The male driver was arrested.
The female was taken into custody around noon after the vehicle she was driving was stopped near Wellington Avenue and Valour Road.
Police then executed a search warrant looking for drugs at a residence in the 700 block of Sterling Lyon Parkway.
The search of the vehicles and residence resulted in the seizure the following items:
- A sawed-off shotgun with ammunition.
- Approximately 10 ounces of fentanyl (estimated value of $57,600, but it should be noted this amount of fentanyl is 2,890 doses valued at $50 each)
- Approximately 20 ounces of methamphetamine (estimated value of $20,000, but it should be noted that this amount of methamphetamine is 5,560 hits at $10 each)
- Approximately 78 grams of cocaine (estimated street value of $6,500)
- Approximately 800 ml of gamma-hydroxybutyrate (estimated street value of $530)
- 52 x 30mg capsules of hydromorphone (estimated street value of $2,080)
- Approximately $14,000 in Canadian currency
- A mobile phone
- A money counter
- Scales
- Drug packaging materials
Tristan Antonio Provinciano – 33 from Winnipeg has been charged for his alleged involvement with Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking Methamphetamine, Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking Fentanyl, Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Cocaine, Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking Hydromorphone, Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking Gamma Hydroxybutyrate, Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000, Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized, Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition, Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in Motor Vehicle, Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order (x2), Flight While Pursued by Peace Officer and Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance
33-year-old Kayla May Metcalf from Winnipeg has been charged for her alleged involvement with Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking Methamphetamine, Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking Fentanyl, Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Cocaine, Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking Hydromorphone, Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking Gamma Hydroxybutyrate, Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000, Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized, Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition, Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in Motor Vehicle, Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order.
Both accused were detained in custody.
