A 32-year-old male was arrested after he spent two hours evading police in a stolen vehicle throughout St. James.
Winnipeg Police say they were alerted to a vehicle driving erratically in the area around 9:00 pm on Tuesday, May 18, 2021. Callers said the vehicle was ignoring red lights and driving into oncoming traffic, narrowly missing other vehicles and pedestrians.
When officers found the vehicle they made the decision not to pursue out of a concern for public safety.
Police followed the suspect and over the next two hours attempted to use containment techniques and a tire deflation device but the driver refused to stop.
Around 11:00 pm the vehicle came to a stop in the 2700 block of Ness Avenue where the driver was taken into custody.
The suspect was charged for his alleged involvement with Theft of Motor Vehicle, Flight Wille Pursued by a Peace Officer and Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance.
The male was released on an Appearance Notice.
