A Winnipeg Police officer was stabbed with a syringe while attempting to arrest a male near Main Street and William Avenue. The incident happened around 3:30 pm on Sunday, May 2, 2021.
According to police, patrol officers had spotted the man inside a bus shelter with a syringe and had attempted to talk to him. The male became aggressive and pointed the needle at the officers. Police ordered the man to drop the syringe but he refused and attacked the officers. A struggle ensued during which time one of the officers was stabbed with the needle that contained an unknown substance.
A taser was used to subdue the suspect but it was unsuccessful. The suspect then tried to take the taser from the officer. As the struggle continued the taser was used a second time successfully and the male was taken into custody.
27-year-old Tyler Joseph Myerion was charged for his alleged involvement with two counts of Assault a Peace Officer with a weapon, two counts of Assault Peace Officer, Resist Peace Officer and Disarming a Peace Officer.
He was detained in custody.
