Police had responded to a domestic assault near Powers Street and Selkirk Avenue. As police arrived on the scene they found a female victim and spotted a male getting into a vehicle and speeding away from the scene. A traffic stop was attempted but the driver refused to stop and continued to flee. Air 1 tracked the vehicle and updated ground patrol units. As the fleeing vehicle approached Mcphillips Street and Leila Avenue it ran a red light and crashed into another vehicle.

Both drivers were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Police notified the IIU of the incident and as it concerned a serious injury the IIU assumed responsibility for the investigation.

Following a ten month investigation by IIU investigators the civilian director has determined that the actions of police officers did not contribute to the serious injuries sustained in the collision.
