The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) says that Winnipeg Police officers had no involvement in a September 12, 2022, fatal collision that claimed the life of a male passenger.
Around 11:30 pm officers were patrolling in the Munroe Avenue area when they spotted a vehicle that was accelerating northbound on Grey Street. A second vehicle was stopped at a four-way intersection and officers activated their emergency lights in the hopes a collision could be averted between the vehicles. The vehicles collided and the vehicle that had been on Grey Street collided with a hydro pole. Three men from that vehicle were taken to hospital, one in critical condition who died from his injuries. the driver of the other vehicle was not physically injured.
The IIU civilian director found no actions by any police officer caused the collision and consequent death and injuries that resulted.
