Police nab man after seeing him running with a handgun

Winnipeg’s Guns and Gangs unit have a 29-year-old male in custody after they spotted him running with a gun in his hand near Sargent Avenue and Furby Street on July 1, 2019.

Police say the incident happened around 2:15 am and when they activated the emergency equipment on their vehicle the suspect continued to run from them.

A foot chase ensued and the male was taken down in the 600 block of Sherbrook Street.

The weapon turned out to be a sawed-off airlift rifle.

Jimmy Gilbert Harper, 29 from Winnipeg has been charged for his alleged involvement with Carry Concealed Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition and Fail to Comply with Probation Order.

Harper was detained in custody.
