POLICE NAB MAN FOR IMPAIRED DRIVING AND WEAPONS CHARGES

Suspect flees on foot after being stopped by police

Just after 1:00 am on Thursday May 18, 2017 Winnipeg Police saw a driver operate his vehicle in an erratic way while speeding in the Portage and Maryland area.
As officers attempted to stop the vehicle in the 400 block of Sherbrook Street the driver jumped out of the car and took off on foot. Police pursued the man and as he was trying to climb over a fence he threw a hand gun and ammunition away. Police say the man resisted arrest but he was eventually taken into custody without injury.
When police recovered the weapon they discovered it was a 22 calibre hand gun.
31 year old Corey Hart from Winnipeg has been arrested and charged with a number of offences for his alleged involvement including:
 
  • Driving While Ability Impaired
  • Fail or Refuse to Provide Breath Sample
  • Resist Peace Officer
  • Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in Motor Vehicle
  • Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
 
He has been detained in custody.
