Police make arrest in machete attack

An 18-year-old male is facing charges after being arrested in connection to a St. James machete attack News 4 first told you about on February 10, 2023.

 

In the attack, a 52-year-old Winnipeg man suffered severe injuries that police described as life-altering. Both the attacker and victim had just exited a Winnipeg Transit bus near the intersection of Mount Royal Road and Ness Avenue when the suspect hit the victim with a machete in the lower body. It was believed at the time that the attack was random and unprovoked.

On Tuesday, February 14, 2023, the suspect was taken into custody in the West Alexander area. Officers found a knife and a machete in his possession at the time of his arrest.

Cintiro Jeremy Loon of Kenora, Ontario was charged for his alleged involvement with Aggravated Assault, three counts of Possession of a Weapon and two counts of Fail to Comply with Probation Order.

He was detained in custody.
