As part of the homicide investigation into the death of 24-year-old Rebecca Contois members of the Winnipeg Police Service’s Ground Search and Rescue Team conducted a search of the Brady Road Resource Management Facility.
On Tuesday June 14, 2022, officers located human remains at the facility after a nearly two week search.
Contois’s partial remains were found in a garbage bin on May 16, 2022 in the 200 block of Edison Avenue. Investigators learned that the rest of her remains may have already been taken to the landfill as part of a residential pickup.
Officers, with help from staff at the landfill, conducted an extensive search in often dangerous conditions due to weather. Police continue to hold the scene at Brady pending an autopsy of the located remains.
On May 18, homicide detectives charged 35-year-old Jeremy Skibicki with First Degree Murder. Police say that no new charges have been laid as a result of the discovery.
