Winnipeg Police have charged four people in connection to the armed standoff early Sunday morning, October 11, 2020.
Police say the incident began when officers observed two males near St. Matthews Avenue and Toronto Street around 12:18 am. One of the males was armed with a firearm. Upon seeing police the two males took off on foot.
Police captured one of the males outside a home in the 300 block of Toronto Street, just a few houses south of St. Matthews Avenue. The other male ran inside the home which caused a four-hour standoff with police.
Shortly after the standoff began two people left the house and were taken into custody by the Tactical Support Team.
Over the next several hours police used a loud speaker in an effort to convince the suspect to give himself up. Just after 4:00 am officers launched tear-gas into the building. Within a couple of minutes the suspect gave himself up.
A search of the home netted police a loaded sawed-off .22 calibre rifle, a large amount of .22 calibre ammunition and a ballistic vest.
Halen James McLeod, 28 from Winnipeg was charged for his alleged involvement with four counts of Store Firearm or Restricted Weapon Contrary to Regs, four counts of Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized, three counts of Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition, three counts of Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order and five counts of Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order.
He is also facing 45 other charges related to previous incidents in Stonewall and Winnipeg including assault, armed robbery, break and enter and weapon offences.
David Nelson Friesen, 36, Aaron Wilson Boutilier, 22 and Angelica Corrine Nikole McKay, 20 are all facing weapons related offences for their alleged involvement.
McKay was also charged with Armed Robbery, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5,000, Theft under $5,000 and two counts of Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order.
All four suspects were detained in custody.
