Just after midnight on Thursday, October 4, 2018, Winnipeg Police responded to a “shots fired” call and reports of a number of armed males in the area on Mountain Avenue.
When officers arrived shots were fired and a foot pursuit ensued. Two male youths were eventually found and arrested. One of the males had suffered a gunshot wound and was taken to Children’s Hospital with minor injuries, treated and released into police custody. None of the officers who responded to the call was injured.
Police have not said what happened that prompted the shooting nor have they stated the age of the youth.
Police say that they have reported the incident to the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU).
The IIU is investigating the incident because any injury caused by the discharge of a firearm is considered serious and they are mandated to investigate.
