Police shoot armed suspect in 7-Eleven parking lot

One male is in critical condition after being shot by police responding to an armed robbery at a 7-Eleven at Ellice Avenue and Arlington Street,

Police say they responded to a report of an armed robbery at the West End convenience store just after 5:30 pm on Thursday, November 21, 2019.

Witnesses on scene captured the event on their cell phones with at least one of them live streaming it on a popular social media platform.

In the startling video obtained by News 4 an officer can be seen approaching the store as the suspect exits the building holding what appears to be a machete above his head. Shouts of “drop the knife” can be clearly heard as the suspect rushes towards the officer. Nine gunshots can be heard on the video as the officer in the video fires his gun directly at the suspect.

Winnipeg Police public information officer Rob Carver said that the suspect was taken to hospital in critical condition but they do not know his current condition.

One police officer was also injured during the incident and also taken to the hospital in stable condition. The officer was treated and released.

The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba has been advised of the shooting and have taken over the investigation.
