UPDATED

Winnipeg Police were involved in a serious crash on Saturday evening, July 13, 2019.

The crash happened at Aberdeen Avenue and Salter Street around 7:15 pm and involved a police cruiser and a van.

Video of the crash taken by a residential surveillance camera clearly shows the police cruiser slamming into the side of the van. The force of the impact caused the van to immediately roll onto its side and slide down the street. Seconds prior to the collision a second police vehicle with emergency lights activated turned left onto Aberdeen.

The video is unclear if the police cruiser involved in the crash had emergency lights on or not but it does appear the police vehicle blew through a stop sign just prior to the crash.

Witnesses tell News 4 that the police vehicle did not have emergency lights or siren activated at the time.

Winnipeg Police Public Information Officer, Rob Carver said the Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba has been notified about the incident.

Carver said a patrol unit was in the area of Aberdeen and Salter investigating a suspicious male. A second patrol unit that was arriving to assist was travelling westbound on Aberdeen when it collided with the southbound van on Salter.
