Police Investigating Attempted Abduction in River Heights

The Winnipeg Police Service is investigating an attempted abduction reported this morning in the 1700 block of Brebeuf Place, located in the River Heights area.

At approximately 8:30 a.m., two young girls, aged 8 and 10, were walking to school when they became aware of an unidentified male following them. According to reports, the individual took hold of one girl’s hand but was quickly interrupted by a nearby adult who witnessed the unfolding situation.

The adult’s intervention prompted the suspect to release the girl’s hand and flee the scene. Both girls arrived at school unscathed and reported the incident to an adult staff member, who then alerted authorities.

The Winnipeg Police have described the suspect as a male in his 30s, approximately 6 feet tall, with a thin build and thin blonde hair. He was wearing a tan beach hat with a large brim, sunglasses, a tank top, and tropical shorts at the time of the incident.

The police are urging anyone with information or who may have surveillance footage from the area at the time of the incident to come forward. Tips can be given directly to the Child Abuse Unit at 204-986-3296, or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS or at winnipegcrimestoppers.org.
