Police investigating a vehicle / pedestrian collision on Portage Avenue

UPDATED

Winnipeg Police are investigating a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian on Portage Avenue on Friday night, October 1, 2021.

It happened around 8:40 pm at the intersection of Cavell Drive and Portage. Police say a woman in her 50s was taken to hospital in critical condition where she died from her injuries.

Blood and clothing lay on the roadway and damage could be seen on the front passenger side of a pickup truck inside the taped off area. A Winnipeg Transit bus was parked at the curb inside the taped off area police were focused on.

Eastbound traffic was diverted at Bourkevale Drive as officers worked gathering evidence and reconstructing the scene. Investigators are expected to be on scene into the early morning hours on Saturday.
