Winnipeg Police Service are investigating a hit and run on Pembina Highway at University Crescent that happened at approximately 12:25 am on Sunday, July 24, 2022.
Witnesses tell News 4 that a black vehicle was speeding northbound on Pembina Highway and did not stop for a red light. A man crossing the street was hit by the vehicle and flew through the air about 60 ft before crashing to the pavement.
Police sources said that the victim was seriously injured and taken to hospital in critical condition.
As officers at the scene were beginning their investigation they were notified that a patrol unit found the vehicle that was allegedly involved in the collision. The vehicle had been abandoned.
Police sources say that at the time of the collision the vehicle had not been reported stolen.
Northbound Pembina Highway was closed for several hours around the scene as officers processed the scene.
