Winnipeg Police Services Major Crime Unit are investigating two separate shooting incidents that happened on Wednesday, January 18, 2023.
Around 5:30 am officers responded to a residence in the 400 block of Maryland Street after they received a report that a gunshot had been heard. When police arrived they found a 29-year-old male inside the residence suffering from a gunshot wound. They provided emergency medical care, which included the use of a tourniquet. The victim was taken to the hospital in unstable condition but has since been upgraded to stable.
Around 7:00 pm police responded to a second gunshot incident at a restaurant in the 600 block of St. James Street.
Police say that they believe a group of people had left the business and got into a nearby ridesharing vehicle. A disagreement occurred and the 28-year-old male driver was assaulted with a firearm. Investigators say several shots were fired before the group fled the area.
The driver was injured in the incident but did not need to go to the hospital.
