Police investigate nine stabbings over the weekend

From Friday afternoon June 12th until early Monday morning, June 15, 2020, Winnipeg Police Service responded to nine separate stabbing incidents.

Around 3:35 pm on Friday officers responded to a report of a stabbing in the 300 block of Hargrave Street.

A 60-year-old male was transported to hospital in stable condition suffering from stab wounds.

Police have arrested a 19-yer-old male who had allegedly sought out retaliation for a broken window, threatening a group of people and stabbing the victim.

Nicholas Leal Matos has been charged for his alleged involvement with two counts of Assault with a Weapon, Four counts of Uttering Threats- Cause Death or Bodily Harm and Mischief Under $5,000.

Just before 12:30 am on June 13, 2020, officers responded to a stabbing at a home in Richmond West.

A 17-year-old male was severely injured after he allegedly tried to rob a 14-year-old male. The youth pulled a knife and stabbed the victim several times.

Police have charged both the assailant and the victim in this case.

The 14-year-old is facing charges of Aggravated Assault and Assault with a Weapon while the 17-year-old male is facing two counts of Robbery.

Around 1:50 am Sunday morning a 32-year-old was stabbed while on his way to a Main Street bar. No one is in custody and the the investigation is continuing. The victim was taken to hospital in stable condition.

Ten minutes later a male was stabbed in an Arlington Street bar dispute. A 44-year-old male made his way to Health Sciences Centre for treatment. Police say that during the incident a gun was fired but no one id believed to have been hit. The investigation continues.

Sunday afternoon, around 1:30 pm, a 53-year-old male was stabbed at a hotel in the 700 block of Main Street.

Police say the investigation indicated the male was stabbed during a robbery. A 48-year-old female is facing charges for her alleged involvement of Robbery.

Roughly 90 minutes later police responded to a different Main Street hotel in the same block for yet another stabbing incident. A 46-year-old male was taken to hospital in unstable condition. Allegedly the incident involved stolen drugs.

Police have arrested and charged a 39-year-old male and a 27-year-old female for their alleged involvement with Aggravated Assault and Possession of a Weapon.

Just before 9:20 pm on Sunday police went to a St. George Road residence after receiving a report of a stabbing.

As the investigation was underway a 34-year-old male turned up in hospital suffering serious injuries. Police say they believe the man had been stabbed when he and others attempted a home invasion in connection to illegal drugs.

The 34-year-old victim has been charged for his alleged involvement with Assault with a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon and Break Enter & Commit Robbery – Dwelling House.

A 33-year-old male was also charged in connection to the home invasion with Break Enter Connit Robbery – Dwelling House and three counts of Theft Under $5,000.

The 43-year-old male resident of the home faces charges for his alleged involvement of Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Methamphetamine, Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine, Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 and Possession for the Purpose of Selling Cannabis.

A 40-year-old male is in hospital after being swarmed by a group of people and stabbed. The incident happened on Selkirk Avenue near Charles Street around 1:35 am Monday June 15, 2020. The investigation is continuing.

Police are also investigating a stabbing that occurred just after 5:00 am in the 500 block of Ellice Avenue. A 47-year-old female is in hospital after she was in a dispute with another female who is now in police custody. The investigation continues.
