Just after 1:40 pm on Saturday, August 27, 2022, RCMP in Steinbach received a phone call to say that a homicide had just happened at a home on Creekside Drive.

When officers arrived on the scene they learned that the suspect had already left the area and that the deceased victim was in the vehicle.

RCMP from multiple detachments and the Winnipeg Police Service was called in to help locate the suspect. Police say that the suspect lived in Winnipeg.

The suspect was located near La Broquerie and taken into custody. During his arrest, the suspect’s vehicle burst into flames. Officers were able to search the vehicle once the local fire department extinguished the flames but the victim’s body was not inside.

Police later learned that the body of a 20-year-old female had been located near a remote ATV trail south of Woodridge.

Investigators say that the accused and victim were known to each other.

20-year-old Josh Benoit from Winnipeg has been charged for his alleged involvement with First Degree Murder. He was detained in custody.

RCMP continue to investigate.
