Police investigate a machete attack in St. James on Thursday afternoon, February 9, 2023.
General patrol officers and members of the Tactical Support Team responded to the area near Mount Royal Road and Ness Avenue at approximately 1:30 pm after receiving the report of the attack. A 52-year-old man was found suffering from a lower-body injury sustained during the assault. The victim was taken to the hospital in stable condition and underwent surgery for the injury. The suspect fled before police arrived.
Investigators say that the victim and attacker were both passengers on a Winnipeg Transit bus before they both got off at Mount Royal and Ness. Once off the bus the attacker hit the victim with the machete.
Police believe that the attack was unprovoked and random.
