Police identify victim in the 22nd​ homicide of 2019

Winnipeg Police investigators have identified the man who died after being attacked Friday night, June 7, 2019.

Robert Christian Donaldson, 51 was attacked and stabbed in what police are calling a random incident. Donaldson’s murder marks the 22nd homicide of 2019.

Police say that they were called to the area of Sherbrook Street and Sara Avenue around 8:45 pm for the report of a group of people fighting. When officers arrived they found the victim suffering from upper body stab wounds and several people trying to fend off an aggressive male armed with a knife.

Police arrested the suspect at the scene and have identified him as Rodney Byron Williams, 34.

Officers treated the victim with emergency first aid. Donaldson was taken to hospital by paramedics but died shortly afterwards.

The accused has been charged for his alleged involvement with Second Degree Murder and two counts of Assault with a Weapon.

He was detained in custody.

Police were initially asking for help locating a witness in a white SUV who had stopped to help but say they have now been identified.
