As of Tuesday May, 24, 2022, the Winnipeg Police Service has responded to 860 incidents where a stabbing was suspected. To put that into perspective that is an average of six stabbings per day.
As part of those statistics, over the the Victoria Day long weekend officers responded to nine serious stabbings from late Friday night, May 20, 2022 until early Monday morning, May 23, 2022.
Around 11:15 pm on Friday a male in his 30s was dropped off at hospital suffering from a severe stab wound. Police believe the male had been stabbed while a a bar in the 800 block of Main Street.
Around 10:30 on Saturday two females were stabbed outside a bar on Main Street near Jarvis Avenue. Officers with the Major Crimes Unit identified and arrested three suspects, a 15, year-old male, a 17-year-old female and a 37-year-old male. The trio are facing assault related charges.
Just under four hours later at 2:13 am on Sunday May 22, 2022, a security person was stabbed at a bar in the 100 block of Osborne Street. The male in his 30s was taken to hospital in critical condition.
Later on Sunday, around 6: 35 pm a male in his 30s was stabbed while he attended a child’s birthday party at a home in the 600 block of Alexander Avenue. A second male in his 30s from the party was seen in hospital for a cut. Police say that neither male wanted further police assistance.
News 4 previously told you about a double stabbing that occurred around 11:30 pm Sunday, in the area of Powers Street and Flora Avenue. The male teens had been at a nearby basketball court according to investigators. Officers provided medical care to the teens until paramedics arrived.
Just after 2:00 am on Monday May 23, 2022, two males in their 20s showed up at hospital with stab wounds. Police believe that the pair were stabbed near a bar in the 400 block of Main Street. Both males declined further help from police.
