Police dog bites child during classroom visit

A Winnipeg Police Service Dog has been pulled from active service until a review can be completed after an incident at Samuel Burland School on Wednesday, December 14, 2022.

The dog was at the school as part of a classroom visit. During the visit the K-9 bit a student. The child suffered an injury and was given immediate medical care before being taken to the hospital as a precaution.

Police have not released any information about what caused the dog to bite but did say that the dog was a single-purpose drug detection dog and has not been trained in aggression or apprehension.
